Recordings of live broadcasts of the the radio programme "Die Bach-Kantate " from the Great Concert Hall of the First New Gewandhaus, Leipzig, Saxony, Germany. This is the last radio recording Karl Straube is known to have made while he was Thomaskantor. In the final movement the shellac disc has been damaged at the first appearance of the word "Israel", "probably to prevent the otherwise technically well-preserved set from being broadcast". (Of course the war had begun the month before.) Sadly, most of the final movement thus cannot be heard.
