Rosanne van Sandwijk (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: The Netherlands

The Duth mezzo-soprano, Rosanne van Sandwijk, studied at the Rotterdam Conservatory with Roberta Alexander where she graduated Cum Laude. Currently she is coached by Margreet Honig and Anne Sofie von Otter.

At the operatic stage, Rosanne van Sandwijk performed Cherubino in W.A. Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Suzuki in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Constanza in Haydn's L’isola Disabitata, Sesto in George Frideric Handel's Giulio Cesare, Hänsel in Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel and Dido in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas. Last season, Rosanne made her debut at the Netherlands Opera in Gluck's Iphigénie en Tauride under the baton of Marc Minkowski. She also appeared at DNO in Wagner's Parsifal (Knappe and Blumenmädchen) with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, conducted by Iván Fischer.

Rosanne van Sandwijk sang the alto part in J.S. Bach’s Passions and cantatas, and participated in the religious works of Felix Mendelssohn, Haydn, Camille Saint-Saëns, L.v. Beethoven and Maurice Duruflé. Rosanne worked with conductors like Paul McCreesh, Jan Willem de Vriend, Daniel Reuss, Sir Colin Davis, Louis Langrée, Marc Minkowski and Iván Fischer and with orchestra’s like the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Orkest van het Oosten, Concerto d'Amsterdam, Camerata Salzburg, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Les Musiciens du Louvre and Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

In 2009 Rosanne van Sandwijk was Lauréat of the Académie Européenne de Musique in Aix-en-Provence. As Lauréat she gave several lied recitals in France. Recently she also gave recitals in the Recital Hall of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, with accompanists such as Malcolm Martineau and fortepianist Kristian Bezuidenhout. As finalist of the 48th edition of the International Vocal Competition 2010 Den Bosch Rosanne van Sandwijk won the Oratorio Prize, the Staetshuys Fonds Prize and an engagement at The Netherlands Opera.

Future engagements include Dorabella in W.A. Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte with the Orchestra of the 18th Century, under the baton of Frans Brüggen and Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), also with the Orchestra of the 18th Century.

In September 2013 Rosanne van Sandwijk became a member of the ensemble of the opera of Kiel, Germany. She will perform, among others, the roles of Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel by E. Humperdinck, Flora in La Traviata by Verdi, 2nd Lady in Die Zauberflöte by W.A. Mozart and Suzuki in Madama Butterfly by Puccini.
