Göttinger Barockorchester (Baroque Orchestra)

Founded: 1995 - Göttingen, Lower Saxony, Germany.

Due to its musical quality, stylistic diversity and passionate way of performing the Göttinger Barockorchester has gained an important place in the musical landscape of northern Germany. The repertoire of the ensemble spans a period of more than four hundred years. Music of early Baroque masters such as Monteverdi and Heinrich Schütz is part of it as well as the big choir works and instrumental concerts of J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel and Georg Philipp Telemann. Regularly the orchestra presents symphonic works by Haydn, W.A. Mozart, Felix Mendelssohn and Johannes Brahms, and also music of contemporary composers and debut performances. The Göttinger Barockorchester deliberately does not restrict its repertoire to a specific period.

This is possible, because the orchestra has a very flexible cast encompassing soloists and an extended symphony orchestra. In addition, the orchestra members perform on “historical“ instruments typical for the respective period, the players being very familiar with the conditions and the playing techniques of each time.

First and foremost the violinist Hans-Henning Vater is guarantor of these stylistic diversity. He founded the Göttinger Barockorchester in 1995 and has been its concertmaster ever since. As soloist he is in great demand for every genre on the Baroque violin, but also on the modern instrument. Like Hans-Henning Vater the members of the Göttinger Barockorchester are all experts in their field and also appear with other famous Baroque ensembles and orchestras. This exchange constantly enriches their experience and provides valuable input to the ensemble.
