The English soprano, Elisabeth Priday, studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
After her studies Elisabeth Priday joined in 1975 the Monteverdi Choir of John Eliot Gardiner, however started then also career of a concert soloist. She gave concerts at the Festival of Aix-en-Provence and with the English BBC broadcast. At the Holland Festival she sang in 1983 in the opera Giustino by George Frideric Handel, and in 1985 in L'Eroe Cinese by Johann Adolf Hasse. At the Maggio Musicale Florence she appeared as Speranza in Orfeo by Monteverdi conducted by Roger Norrington, and with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra as Amor in Orpheus by Gluck. She participated in a Germany tour, with which she performed with The English Concert Dido and Aeneas by Purcell. In London and at the Brighton Festival she sang the soprano solo in Mass in B minor (BWV 232) by J.S. Bach with the King's College Choir Cambridge; G.F. Handel's Carmelite Vespers with the European Union Baroque Orchestra; with the Italian broadcast RAI in Alexander's Feast by G.F. Handel; at the Festival of Beaune (France) and at the Queen Elisabeth Hall in London in Messiah by the same composer; Monteverdi's Vespers at St. Johns Smith Square, Bristol, St Albans. In France and England (City of London Festival) she appeared in La Corona by Gluck with Charoscuro and Climene. In 1991 she appeared as a guest with the Deller Consort in Paris.
The many recordings in which Elisabeth Priday has taken part reflect her specialisation in Early and Baroque Music. On RCA: Dido and Aeneas and King Arthur by Purcell, more vocal works of Purcell; on DGG: The Fairy Queen and again Dido and Aeneas by Purcell; on Nimbus: Les Boréades by Rameau, Gloria of Antonio Vivaldi; on other labels: Israel in Egypt, Semele and Dixit Dominus by G.F. Handel, Cantatas of J.S. Bach and Heinrich Schütz, works of Monteverdi and of Italian Baroque masters. |
