The Czech tenor, Milan Vlček, studied music and opera at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts. Already during his stidies, he sang the role of Acis in George Frideric Handel's Acis and Galatea and the role of Don José in Georges Bizet's Carmen.
After graduation, Milan Vlček became in 1994 a soloist at the Municipal Theatre in Ústí nad Labem. His first role was as Jeník in the opera The Bartered Bride by Bedrich Smetana. Then followed the role of Edwin in E. Kálmán's operetta The Gypsy Princess, Vítka in Smetana's The Secret, Beppe in Pagliacci by R. Leoncavallo, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Faust in Charles Gounod's Faust, Mark, the Duke in Rigoletto and as Barinkay in the operetta Gypsy Baron.
In 1996, Milan Vlček got a permanent engagement at Janacek Opera National Theatre in Brno. The first role he sang there was Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni by W.A. Mozart and Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Remendado in G. Bizet's Carmen, helmsman in the Flying Dutchman, Walter in Tannhäuser, Ismaele in Nabucco, Alfredo in La Traviata, Nemorino in The Elixir of Love, Gonzalvo in L'heure espagnole by M. Ravel, or Lyonel in Marte by Friedrich Flotow. From the Czech operas he sang roles as Jeník in The Bartered Bride, Jirka in The Devil and Kate, Jiri in The Jacobin, the Prince in Rusalka and in Janáček's operas Skuratov in From the House of the Dead or the role Albert Gregor in Makropulos Case. Besides opera roles, he sang Sou Chong in operetta The Land of Smiles by Fr. Lehár.
In 1995 Milan Vlček first appeared in the Prague State Opera as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte and since then as a guest in Katya Kabanova (Kudryas), Nabucco (Ismael), La traviata (Alfredo), Turco in Italia (Albazar) and Soldiers Dancers (Chef). At the National Theatre in Prague, he toured in the role Jirka in Dvorak's opera The Devil and Kate. Slovak National Theatre, he sang Jeník in The Bartered Bride and Alfredo in La traviata. As a guest, he featured in other Czech theaters such as the Czech Budejovice, Olomouc, Ostrava, Plzen.
Milan Vlček had the opportunity to present also at foreign theaters eg. As Tamino in Germany, Belgium, France and Switzerland, Alfredo in Austria, Don Ottavio in Italy, Count Almaviva in Germany, Faust in Holland. He also participated at the W. A. Mozart Opera Festival in Schwetzingen in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte in the role Ferando, at the festival in Bochum in concert performances of operas by Janacek in the role of Dr. Sudy, in Israel concert tour in operas by W.A. Mozart, or in Japan as Don Ottavio, Remendado, Tamino, and Symphony No. 9, on tour with the conductor Kurt Redel.
In addition to opera performances, Milan Vlček is engaged in concerts both in the Czech Republic and abroad, for example in the works of Bruckner (Te Deum), W.A. Mozart (Missa Brevis, Requiem), L.v. Beethoven (Symphony No. 9, Missa Solemnis), G. Verdi (Requiem), Dvořák (Requiem), Janacek (Glagolitic Mass, The Diary of One Who Disappeared), Carl Orff (Carmina Burana) and others. |
