The Austrian tenor, Daniel Johannsen, began his music studies as an organ player and it was only later in his career that he turned to singing. He studied at the Universität für Music und Darstellende Kunst in Graz and at the Universität für Music und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna with Professor Margit Fleishmann. In 2002 he received the 2nd Prize for singing at the XIII International Bach Competition in Leipzig.
Daniel Johannsen performs Baroque, the German Romantic lied, and contemporary music. He has appeared all over Europe, including concerts in Austria, Germany, France, UK and Canada. He has appeared as a soloist, and in 2000 performed in collaboration with the renowned conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt. In June 2004 he participated in a performance of J.S. Bach’s Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) conducted by Hermann Max at the Israel Festival Jerusalem.
Daniel Johannsen has also participated in radio and TV productions of ORF. Among his pupils and/or singers who have attended his master-classes: Martin Zeidler (Baritone). |
