The French counter-tenor, Philip Barth, obtained his Bachelor's and his studies in the Conservatoire National de Nancy and Conservatoire National de Nancy Metz (musical training medals, analysis, chamber music, modern and antique cellos). He then decided to dedicate himself to singing as counter-tenor. Along with the university, he worked in 1993 under the tutelage of Nicole Nussbaum in Strasbourg and Monique Zanetti at the CNR de Metz (Early Music Department). In 1995 he joined the Chantres de la Chapelle, adults sibgers ar the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles (Director: Olivier Schneebeli).
Passionate about choral singingPhilip Barth studied choral conducting at the Conservatoire de Luxembourg where he won a 1st prize. He directs the amateur ensembles Cantus Firmus (Nancy) of which he is founder and Jubilate Musica (Luxembourg, 1999-2005). He was invited to direct ensembles such as Le Choeur d'enfants de la Maîtrise de la Cathédrale de Metz, Ensemble Vocal de Luxembourg or Villanelle, instrumental chamber groups, modern and Baroque, as guest conductor.
Philip Barth is currently acting as a voice trainer for the Maîtrise de la Cathédrale de Metz and the European Institute of Choral Singing (INECC). He works or has worked with ensembles Arsys Bourgogne (Director: Pierre Cao), Huelgas Ensemble (Director: Paul Van Nevel), Les Jeunes Solistes (Director: Rachid Safir), Ensemble William Byrd (Director: Graham O'Reilly), Choeur de Chambre de Namur (Director: Jean Tubéry), Ensemble Jacques Moderne (Director: Joël Suhubiette), Le Parlement de Musique (Director: Martin Gester), Akadêmia Ensemble (Director: Françoise Lasserre), Collegium Vocale Gent (Director: Philippe Herreweghe), La Chapelle Rhénane (Director: Benoît Haller) and Ensemble Doulce Mémoire (Director: Denis Raisin Dadre). He is also a member of Ensemble Pygmalion (Director: Raphaël Pichon). He is a founding member and leading singer of the ensemble Messin Paschal de l'Estocart, specializing in both the French Renaissance music as well as vocal music of contemporary composers.
His interest in contemporary music led him to sing, or even create, works by Jacques Rebotier, Philippe Schoeller, Thierry Escaich, Patrick Burgan, Klaus Huber, Anthony Girard, Jonathan Harvey, Jérôme Bourdellon and Vincent Bouchot. He also likes jazz repertoire and French variety that practice with the Lorraine group La Boîte Vocale.
Philip Barth had the pleasure to perform in festivals and prestigious venues: Festivals of La Chaise Dieu, Vézelay, Ambronay, Saintes, Utrecht, Beaune, Saint-Riquier, Route des Orgues de Moselle, Arsenal de Metz, Flagey (Bozar) in Brussels, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Bruges, Salle Gaveau, Philharmonies in Varsovie and Luxembourg, Auditoriums in Opéra Bastille, Dijon and Lyon, as well as Cité de la Musique in Paris. |
