Hans-Christoph Rademann (Conductor)

Born: 1965 - Schwarzenberg (Erzgebirge), Germany

The German conductor, Hans-Christoph Rademann, grew up in a cantor's family in Schwarzenberg/Erzgebirge. From 1975 to 1983 he was a member of the famous Dresden Kreuzchor. He studied choir and orchestra conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Dresden "Carl Maria von Weber" until 1990.

In 1985, while he was still studying choral and orchestral conducting, Hans-Christoph Rademann created the Dresdner Kammerchor. Refining the choir into a professional ensemble and performing with outstanding quality, he soon gained reputation in Germany and abroad. Since then has been its conductor and artistic director, and won with them numerous prizes and honours. Until 1999 he was also musical director of the Singakademie Dresden, which has one of the richest traditions of Saxon choirs. Rademann, who has also initiated the Festival of Early Music Erzgebirge, has received the Sponsorship Award of the City of Dresden in 1994 for his dedication and remarkable achievements developing the musical life of the region.

From August 1999 to 2004, Hans-Christoph Rademann was also chief director of Norddeutschen Rundfunk Chor, where he co-operated with conductors like Semyon Bychkov, Roger Norrington and Christoph Eschenbach. During recent years he has also made his name as a conductor of symphonic works with choir. He also guest directed a number of important orchestras and choirs, among them the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Dresdner Philharmonie, Dresdner Barockorchester, Freiburger Barockorchester, Concerto Köln, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, National Chamber Choir of Ireland, Nederlandse Bachvereniging, Collegium Vocale Gent and many ensembles of the German radio institutions such as Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Chor des Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, Rundfunkchor Berlin and RIAS-Kammerchor.

His musical work emphasizes early music, especially the recovering of the neglected gems of Dresden's musical history. Numerous premieres of works by the composers Jan Dismas Zelenka, Johann Adolf Hasse and Johann David Heinichen - - epochal rediscoveries, that have often also been released as CD productions - are results of Rademann's endeavors. and the co-operation with the most important ensembles in the fields of early music such as, and Collegium Vocale Gent are the result of Rademann’s endeavours. Although his interest applies particularly applies for HIP, his repertoire is versatile and reaches from Renaissance Music up to the Modern times. In 1997 Hans-Christoph Rademann made his debut as an opera conductor with the Mozart’s Entführung aus dem Serail at the Landesbühnen Sachsen. He was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque (2002), the Diapason d'Or (2006) and repeatedly the German disc critics award.

Hans-Christoph Rademann ranks among the most demanded German conductors of his generation. In the course of numerous concert tours he appeared at important music music centers and festivals in Europe (including Sweden, Finland, Italy, Slovakia and Holland), in the USA, Israel, South Africa, India, Sri Lanka, Argentina, Uruguay and Japan.

In 2000, Hans-Christoph Rademann was appointed as professor for choral conducting at the Carl Maria von Weber College of Music in Dresden and in 2007 he was designated chief director of the RIAS-Kammerchor Berlin, which he successfully guest conducted on earlier occasions.
