Hannah Fraser (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Armidale, New South Wales, Australia

The Australian mezzo-soprano, Hannah Fraser, completed her Bachelor of Music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2013.

Following her graduation, Hannah Fraser took up a position with Song Company, Australia’s most prestigious vocal group. Both as an operatic soloist and through her continuing experience as a consort singer, her schedule has consisted of a mix of national and international touring, multiple subscription series across Australia, festivals, recording and broadcast projects, fully-staged operas, educational activities and cross-artform collaborative projects.

In 2017 Hannah Fraser made her operatic debut in Austria and the Czech Republic as part of the Prague Summer Nights Festival where she performed the role of Cherubino in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro. She then relocated to Italy, and. In 2018 she was one of 15 candidates selected from around the world to join the Academy of Belcanto “Rodolfo Celletti” in collaboration with the reputable Festival della Valle d’Itria. It was here she studied the art of Belcanto singing with many of Italy's most respected coaches & directors, preparing and presenting a variety of operatic programs. Following her master-classes with Fabio Luisi & Richard Bonynge AC, CBE, she was selected to perform Igor Stravinsky’s Three Songs from William Shakespeare and the roles of Berta in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, and Angelina in Rossini' La Cenerentola.

In 2019 Hannah Fraser performed Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater & Antonio Vivaldi's Stabat Mater as a result of winning the 'ex-aequo prize of the XIII ancient Fatima Terzo' early music competition in Italy. On the concert platform, she is versed in a wide variety of styles and genres though specialises in early music. She has performed Hildegard's Ordo Virtutum, Orazio Vecchi's A Night in Siena, Demantius's St John Passion, Monteverdi's Missa in illo tempore, George Frideric Handel's Messiah and Saul, J.S. Bach’s B Minor Mass (BWV 232), Magnificat (BWV 243) & St John Passion (BWV 245), G.B. Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, A. Vivaldi's Stabat Mater, Girolamo Abo’s Stabat Mater, Haydn's Seven Last Words, W.A. Her chorus works include; Purcell’s King Arthur, Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride and G.F. Handel's Theodora.

2020 and 2021 have been difficult years for everybody, those in the arts included, and Hannah Fraser moved back to Australia from Italy in March 2020. She found herself with time to create and explore future opportunities and was involved in the establishment of Vocal Detour. She enjoyed creating education modules for Moorambilla Voices, which allowed children to continue engaging with music from all around Australia. She also revisited her passion for writing music, and began putting together her own productions. She felt fortunate to fit in performances with Bach Akademie Australia, Vocal Detour, Luminescence and The Song Company where possible, and those concerts were able to be streamed worldwide on the Melbourne Digital Concert Hall. She is already looking eagerly forward to all the concerts that 2022 has in store.
