Adalbert Kraus (Tenor) |
Born: April 27, 1937 - Aschaffenburg, Bavaria, Germany |
The German tenor, Adalbert Kraus, is a latecomer to music. He worked as a mechanic while studying for his high-school diploma. Only after graduating from Würzburg University in German culture, theology and philosophy he began his vocal studies at the State Conservatory at Würzburg (Professor Klink-Schneider) in 1967 at 30 years of age. Just one year later he one a prize at the Geneva International Music Competition.
In 1970 Adalbert Kraus made his debut at the Hannover State Opera. From 1970 to 1974 he was engaged at the Niedersächsischen Staatstheater in Hannover as a lyrical tenor.
Since then Adalbert Kraus has worked free-lance. He has worked with many distinguished conductors at concerts and opera guests and has become known for his song recitals throughout Germany and Switzerland, as well as in Athens, London, Oxford, Oslo, New York, Washington, Boston, Buenos Aires, Tokyo, Vienna, Israel (his first appearance there was in 1976) and other music centres throughout the world. He has also appeared on radio, television and in a large repertoire of recordings. Adalbert Kraus sang most of the solo parts for tenor in Helmuth Rilling’s complete Bach Cantatas cycle.
Adalbert Kraus is professor in ordinary at the College of music in Munich, honorary professor at the Würzburg College of Music and guest lecturer at both the Tokyo College of Music and the International Bach Academy in Stuttgart. |
