Tobias Berndt (Baritone)

Born: 1979 - Berlin, Germany

The German baritone, Tobias Berndt, received his first musical training during in his youth as a member of the Dresdner Kreuzchor. As a boy soprano, he sang at the Dresden Semper Oper and the Komische Oper Berlin, the first boy in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. Since October 2000 he studied singing at the Leipziger Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" with Professor Hermann Christian Polster. Furthermore, he attended master-classes including with Rudolf Piernay, Theo Adam and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. Awarded with the "Mauersberger-Stipendium" and the "Artländer Musikpreis", he was already successful at various competitions ranging as "Jugend musiziert" and the Leipzig Bach Competition. In 2004, he won 3rd Prize the field of concert performance at the Federal Singing Competition.

2005 led Tobias Berndt to an opera engagement at the Schlosstheater Rheinsberg. He made guest perfomances at renowned festivals such as Bachfest Leipzig, the Schumann-Tagen-Zwickau and the Prague Spring. Most recently, he was heard in J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232) by J.S. Bach with Helmuth Rilling at the European Music Festival Stuttgart 2005. Concert engagements have taken him to other European countries, the USA and Chile. In May 2006 he was heard in a performance of War Requiem by Benjamin Britten.

Radio and CD recordings demonstrate his artistic work.
