Camerata Viennensis ensemble was founded in 2006 by University Professor Dr. Rudolf Scholz. One of the goals of Camerata Viennensis was and is the promotion of outstanding young musicians in the context of concerts. Students and graduates of music universities should thus take a step forward in their career towards a secure position in public musical life.
The Camerata Viennensis-based repertoire with early Baroque rarities (Emilio de Cavalieri, Rappresentazione di anima e di corpo - Quinton label) and Baroque was supplemented by more or less rarely played compositions from the following epochs of music history to the present day.
After the death of Rudolf Scholz in 2012, the Camerata Viennensis was continued organisationally and financially, not least by proven, faithful musicians of the ensemble. In 2013, 10 concerts of various sizes were held. The first home for the the concerts of the Camerata, whose main focus is music of a sacred background, was found in the Rektoratskirche St. Peter, in the city center of Vienna.
On May 14, 2014, Martin-Jaques Garand conducted the ensemble for the first time. Further concerts under M.-J. Garand and without a conductor followed. From September 2014 to December 2016, Peterskirche held an evening each month with J.S. Bach Cantatas conducted by M.-J.Garand. In this cycle, two cantatas are supplemented by a short sermon on their content. The ensemble played half of this cycle.
Gradually, the concerts of the Camerata Viennensis became an insider tip, which manifests itself in increasing audience numbers and a consistently positive echo. From the 2015-2016 season, therefore, the time had come to offer the concerts of the Camerata in medium-sized concert halls. The first such collaboration could be agreed with the MuTh (the music theater of the Wiener Sängerknaben).
The Verein Camerata Viennensis is co-organizer of the Internationalen Franz-Schmidt-Orgelwettbewerbs. From 2010 to 2014 it took place in Kitzbühel, 2016 for the first time in Vienna in co-operation with the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst. The 7th Competition took place in Vienna from September 13-2, 2018. |
