Wout Oosterkamp (Bass-Baritone)

Born: 1950 - The Netherlands

The Dutch bass-baritone Wout Oosterkamp, studied singing at the Maastrichtse Conservatory with Marilyn Tyler and piano with Jean Antonietti. In 1972 he finished his piano study, after which he continued his singing study in Amsterdam as a pupil of the Music lyceum. Further he studied in Utrecht and Madrid and with the singing pedagogue Bodi Rapp and with Pierre Bernac.

Besides concertos, recitals and television performances in the Netherlands, Wout Oosterkamp appears regular and with lots of success abroad, a.o. in Germany, Belgium, Italy , Austria, Britain - Glyndebourne - and in the USA. He made his debut with the Nederlandse Operastichting in 1982 as Ariadeno in the opera L'Ormindo of Pietro Francesco Cavalli. He sang in the premiers of Aan de Wannsee (1986, Geert van Keulen) as Heinrich von Kleist and in Un malheureux vêtu de noir (1990, Jan van Vlijmen) as doctor and performed a.o. the role of Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia of Rossini. In 1985 he won the Nederlandse Muziekprijs. The last years he made name as lied- and oratorio-singer. Wout Oosterkamp joined the last years of his career at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague as teacher.

In 2003, at an age of 52, Wout Oosterkamp finished his professional career of singer. He joined the order of the Benedicts and established himself, with his dog Teddy - a Jack Russell - in the monastery at Velp.
