The Gutenberg-Kammerchor (= GKC) of the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz under the artistic direction of Professor Felix Koch is a new offer of the Collegium Musicum. To make old music alive while sharing joy and singing as artistic level exciting choral literature of great masters like J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel or Georg Philipp Telemann is the main concern of the choir, while they keep an also eye on the literature of the romantic era.
The Gutenberg-Kammerchor was created on the initiative of some singers of the UniChors Mainz: Inspired by the inspiring conducting of its leader Professor Felix Koch, they asked if he does not want to found a chamber choir. In the discussion of the debut concert in June In 2013, the Allgemeine Zeitung Mainz wrote of an "enrichment of the Mainz music and music industry Choir landscape "as well as a" lucky grip ".
Organizationally part of the Collegium musicum an der Johannes Gutenberg Universität Mainz, in the Gutenberg-Kammerchor, talented singers perform under the well-versed direction of Professor Felix Koch. Concerts with cantatas, oratorios and a cappella literature are prepared in intensive phases of the rehearsal, with each voice preceding the note material must have rehearsed independently. This allows the concentrated work on the music.
In the past, the Gutenberg-Kammerchor has already performed important works of "Grand Master of the German High Baroque" J.S. Bach (Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248 December 2013 in Frankfurt and Mainz, Mass in B minor BWV 232 in Cape Town, Mainz and Frankfurt, Himmelfahrtsoratorium BWV 11 April 2016 in Berlin, Mainz and Frankfurt), as well as and newly edited cantatas by G.P. Telemann. In the summer of 2015, a concert program in the Weihergarten (Schott-Musikverlag) with romantic Lieder cycles by Johannes Brahms (Liebesliederwalzer Op. 52 and Zigeunerlieder Op. 103) in co-operation with the Midlands Youth Choir from KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) with traditional South African choir songs added. In 2014 the choir sang in Strasbourg, motets by Johannes Brahms, Claude Debussy and Josef Rheinberger.
In addition to such milestones in the history of music, there are above all rediscovered and rediscoverable works by both well-known and hitherto overlooked composers. The occupation of the project-related choir is flexible and depends exclusively on the specific musical requirements.
The Gutenberg-Kammerchor has collaborated with well-known artists such as Konrad Junghänel, Andreas Scholl and Klaus Mertens. The choir usually performs with the Neumeyer Consort Frankfurt, with whom it recorded a reconstructed version of J.S. Bach's Markus-Passion BWV 247 for CD in the spring of 2017. In addition to concerts in their hometown of Mainz, the ensemble regularly performs in Frankfurt and Wiesbaden, and has been to concerts in the past among others to Berlin, Strasbourg and Stellenbosch (South Africa). |
