The Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim, Southwest German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim (= PCO), was founded in 1950 by Friedrich Tilegant, student of Paul Hindemith. It appeared at the Festivals of Salzburg, Luzern and Leipzig, started world tours and recorded with Deutsche Grammophon, Vox, Erato, Telefunken an Intercord.
After Tilegant, the orchestra was directed by Paul Angerer (1971-1981) and Vladislav Czarnecki (1986-2002). Since then, Sebastian Tewinkel has taken over the direction.
The Southwest German Chamber Orchestra had radio broadcasts in nearly all European countries, and its discography counts more than 170 recordings, of which several have been awarded international prizes, like the Grand Prix du Disques, Monteverdi Preis, Arthur Honegger Preis. Besides early music, the orchestra also performed several first performances by Jean Francaix, Harald Genzmer, Enjott Schneider. It has worked together with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Yehudi Menuhin, Gidon Kremer, Mischa Maisky, Christian Tetzlaff, Sabine Meyer and Anatoll Ugorski and toured Europe, USA and Japan. |
