1

Chorus [S, A, T, B]

Tromba I-III, Tamburi, Flauto traverso I/II col Oboe I-III, Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

Unser Mund sei voll Lachens und unsre Zunge voll Rühmens.
May our mouth be filled with laughter and our tongue full of praise
Denn der Herr hat Großes an uns getan.
for the Lord has done great things for us.

2

Aria[Tenor]

Flauto traverso I/II, Fagotto, Continuo

Ihr Gedanken und ihr Sinnen,
You thoughts and you senses,
Schwinget euch anitzt von hinnen,
leap up from here,
Steiget schleunig himmelan
climb quickly to heaven
Und bedenkt, was Gott getan!
and consider what God has done!
Er wird Mensch, und dies allein,
He has become man, and this only
Dass wir Himmels Kinder sein.
so that we may become children of heaven.

3

Recitative [Bass]

Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

Dir, Herr, ist niemand gleich.
No one is like you, Lord,
Du bist groß und dein Name ist groß
you are great and your name is great
und kannst's mit der Tat beweisen.
and you can show this by your deeds.

4

Aria [Alto]

Oboe d'amore solo, Continuo

Ach Herr, was ist ein Menschenkind,
Ah, Lord, what is a child of man
Dass du sein Heil so schmerzlich suchest?
that you should seek his salvation with so much pain?
Ein Wurm, den du verfluchest,
A worm whom you curse
Wenn Höll und Satan um ihn sind;
when hell and Satan are around him;
Doch auch dein Sohn, den Seel und Geist
but also your son, whom soul and spirit
Aus Liebe seinen Erben heißt.
Through love call their inheritance.

5

Aria (Duet) [Soprano, Tenor]

Continuo

Ehre sei Gott in der Höhe
Glory to God on high
und Friede auf Erden
and peace on the earth
und den Menschen ein Wohlgefallen!
and goodwill to men.

6

Aria [Bass]

Tromba, Oboe I/II, Oboe da caccia, Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

Wacht auf, ihr Adern und ihr Glieder,
Awaken, you veins and limbs,
Und singt dergleichen Freudenlieder,
and sing such songs of joy
Die unserm Gott gefällig sein.
that are pleasing to our God
Und ihr, ihr andachtsvollen Saiten,
and you, you devoted strings,
Sollt ihm ein solches Lob bereiten,
should prepare for him such praise
Dabei sich Herz und Geist erfreun.
As delights heart and spirit.

7

Chorale [S, A, T, B]

Tromba e Oboe I e Flauto traverso I/II col Soprano, Oboe II e Violino II coll'Alto, Oboe da caccia e Viola col Tenore, Continuo

Alleluja! Gelobt sei Gott,
Alléluia ! God be praised,
Singen wir all aus unsers Herzens Grunde.
We all sing from the bottom of our hearts
Denn Gott hat heut gemacht solch Freud,
God has made such joy today
Die wir vergessen solln zu keiner Stunde.
that we can never forget.
