Coro

1

Chorus [S, A, T, B]

Tromba, Oboe I/II, Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

Meine Seel erhebt den Herren,
Und mein Geist freuet sich Gottes, meines Heilandes;
Denn er hat seine elende Magd angesehen.
Siehe, von nun an werden mich selig preisen alle Kindeskind.

My soul praises the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my saviour;
for he has looked upon his wretched handmaiden.
See, from now all children's children will praise me as blessed.

Aria S

Aria [Soprano]

Oboe I/II all' unisono, Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

Herr, der du stark und mächtig bist,
Gott, dessen Name heilig ist,
Wie wunderbar sind deine Werke!
Du siehest mich Elenden an,
Du hast an mir so viel getan,
Dass ich nicht alles zähl und merke.

Lord, you who are strong and mighty,
God, whose name is holy,
how wonderful are your works!
You look upon me in my wretchedness,
you have done so much for me
that I cannot count and realise all.

Recitative [Tenor]

Continuo

Des Höchsten Güt und Treu
Wird alle Morgen neu
Und währet immer für und für
Bei denen, die allhier
Auf seine Hilfe schaun
Und ihm in wahrer Furcht vertraun.
Hingegen übt er auch Gewalt
Mit seinem Arm
An denen, welche weder kalt
Noch warm
Im Glauben und im Lieben sein;
Die nacket, bloß und blind,
Die voller Stolz und Hoffart sind,
Will seine Hand wie Spreu zerstreun.

The goodness and faithfulness of the most high God
is new every morning
and lasts always for ever and ever
for those who here
look to his help
and trust him in sincere fear.
On the other hand he also uses force
with his own arm
on those who are neither cold
nor warm
in faith and in loving;
those people, naked, bare and blind,
those who are full of pride and arrogance,
his hand scatters like chaff.

Aria B

Aria [Bass]

Continuo

Gewaltige stößt Gott vom Stuhl
Hinunter in den Schwefelpfuhl;
Die Niedern pflegt Gott zu erhöhen,
Dass sie wie Stern am Himmel stehen.
Die Reichen lässt Gott bloß und leer,
Die Hungrigen füllt er mit Gaben,
Dass sie auf seinem Gnadenmeer
Stets Reichtum und die Fülle haben.

God thrusts the mighty from the seat
down into the sulphurous pool;
God is accustomed to raise the lowly
so that they become like stars in heaven/in the sky
God leaves the rich bare and empty,
he fills the hungry with gifts
so that on his sea of grace they
always have riches and abundance.

Er denket der Barmherzigkeit
Und hilft seinem Diener Israel auf.

He remembers his mercy
and raises up his servant Israel.

Recitativo T

Recitative [Tenor]

Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

Was Gott den Vätern alter Zeiten
Geredet und verheißen hat,
Erfüllt er auch im Werk und in der Tat.
Was Gott dem Abraham,
Aus lauter Liebe zu erlösen;
Drum bleibt's darbei,
Dass Gottes Wort voll Gnad und Wahrheit sei.

What God to the fathers of old
has spoken and promised
he also accomplishes in act and deed.
What God to Abraham,
when he came to him in his huts,
promised and swore.
has happened, since the time was fulfilled.
His seed had to spread out so ver y much
like the sand in the sea
andlike the stars in the sky,
the saviour was born,
the eternal Word allowed himself to be seen in the flesh
to free the human race from death and all evil
and from Satan's slavery
out of pure love;
and so it remains
that God's word is full of grace and truth.

Violino I e Oboe I/II e Tromba col Soprano, Violino II coll'Alto, Viola col Tenore, Continuo

Lob und Preis sei Gott dem Vater und dem Sohn
Und dem Heilgen Geiste,
Wie es war im Anfang, jetzt und immerdar
Und von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit. Amen

Glory and praise be to God the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit
as it was in the beginning, now and forever
and from eternity to eternity. Amen.
