Barmherzger Vater, höchster GOtt,
Gedenk an deine Worte!
Du sprichst `Ruf mich an in der Not
Und klopf an meine Pforte,
So will ich dir
Errettung hier
Nach deinem Wunsch erweisen,
Daß du mit Mund
Und Herzensgrund
In Freuden mich sollst preisen.´

Merciful Father, highest God,
Consider your word!
You say: ‘Call to me in your distress
and knock at my door,
then I shall show you
deliverance here
according to your wish,
so that with your mouth
and from the bottom of your heart
you will praise me with joy.’

Befiehl dem HErren früh und spat
All deine Weg und Sachen,
Er weiß zu geben Rat und Tat,
Kann alles richtig machen.
Wirf auf ihn hin,
was dir im sinn
Liegt und dein Herz betrübet,
Er ist dein Hirt,
Der wissen wird
Zu schützen, was er liebet.

Entrust to the Lord early and late
all your ways and affairs,
he knows how to give counsel and deed,
he can make everything right.
Cast on him
what weighs on your mind
and troubles your heart;
he is your shepherd
who will know
how to protect what he loves.

Der fromme Vater wird sein Kind
In seine Arme fassen
Und, die gerecht und gläubig sind,
Nicht stets in Unruh lassen.
Drum, lieben Leut,
Hofft allzeit
Auf den, der völlig labet;
Dem schüttet aus,
Was ihr im Haus
Und auf dem Herzen habet.

The holy Father will hold his child
in his arms
and those who are just and faithful
he will not leave constantly in trouble.
Therefore , dear people,
at all times hope
in him who refreshes you completely;
pour out to him
what is in your house
and on your heart.

Ach, süßer Hort, wie tröstlich klingt,
Was du verspricht den Frommen:
`Ich will, wann Trübsal einher dringt,
Ihm selbst zu Hilfe kommen,
Er liebet mich,
Drum will auch ich
Ihn lieben und beschützen,
er soll bei mir
Im Schoße hier
Frei aller Sorgen sitzen.

Ah, sweet refuge, how consolingly sounds
your promise to the righteous:
‘When affliction presses,
I myself will come to help.
He loves me,
therefore I also shall
love and protect him,
he will sit here by me
in my bosom
free from all cares.’

Der HErr ist allen denen nah,
Die sich zu ihme finden,
Wann sie ihn rufen, steht er da,
Hilft fröhlich überwinden
All Angst und Weh,
Hebt in die Höh
Die schon darnieder liegen;
Er macht und schafft,
Daß sie viel Kraft
Und große Stärke kriegen.

The Lord is near to all those
who are found next to him,
when they call, he is standing there, he happily helps them to overcome
all anxiety and sorrow,
raises on high
those who are cast down,
he causes and brings it about
that they get much strength
and great might.

Fürwahr, wer meinen Namen ehrt,
Spricht Christus, und fest gläubet.
Des Bitte wird von GOtt erhört,
Sein Herzenswunsch bekleidet.
So tret heran
Ein jedermann!
Wer bittet, wird empfangen,
Und wer da sucht,
Der wird die frucht
Mit großem Nutz erlangen.

Truly, who honours my name,
says Christ, and believes firmly,
his prayer will be heard by God,
his heart’s wish fulfilled.
So let everyone
approach!
Who asks will receive
and who seeks
will obtain his goal
with great profit.

Hört, was dort jener Richter sagt:
`Ich muß die Witwe hören,
Dieweil sie mich so treibt und plagt.
Sollt denn sich GOtt nicht kehren
Zu seiner Schar,
Die hier und dar
Bei Nacht und Tage schreien?´
Ich sag und halt:
`Er wird sie bald
Aus aller Angst befreien.´

Hear what once that judge said:
‘I have to hear the widow
since she bothers and presses me so much.’
Will not God then turn
to his flock
who here and there
by day and night cry out:
I say and hold to this:
‘He will soon
free them from all anxiety.’

Wann der Gerecht in Nöten weint,
Will GOtt ihn fröhlich machen;
Und die zerbrochnen Herzens seind,
Die sollen wieder lachen.
Wer fromm will sein,
Muß in der Pein
Und Jammerstraße wallen;
Doch steht ihm bei
Des Höchsten Treu
Und hilft ihm aus dem allen.

When the righteous man weeps in his distress, God will make him joyful,
and those whose hearts are broken
will laugh again.
If anyone wants to be holy,
he must travel in
the ways of pain and sorrow;
but there stands by him
God’s faithfulness
and helps him in everything.

Ich habe dich einn Augenblick,
O liebes Kind, verlassen,
Sieh aber, sieh, mit großem Glück
Und Trost ohn alle Maßen
Will ich dir schon
Die Freudenkron
Aufsetzen und verehren;
Dein kurzes Leid

I have for a moment,
my dear child, left you;
but see, see, with great good fortune
and comfort beyond all measure
I shall on you
the crown of joy
place and honour;
Your brief suffering
will into joy
and everlasting good be changed.

Mein Trost von so viel Jahren,
Wie läßt du mich so manchen Schmerz
Und große Angst erfahren!
Mein Herze schmacht,
Mein Auge wacht
Und weint sich krank und trübe;

Vom Seufzen, das ich übe.

Ah dear God, paternal heart,
my comfort for so many years,
why do you let me experience so many sorrows
and such great anguish?
My heart languishes,
my eyes keep watch
and weep until they are sick and dulled,
my face
loses its light
because of my constant sighs.

Und kein Guts mehr erzeigen?
Soll dein Wort und Verheißung sich

and show no more of your goodness?
Will your word and promise
now just fall to the ground?
Are you so angry

will you be willing to send me your salvation?.

I long for you, O Lord,
in the misery of this earth.
My God, I wait for and hope also in you,
let not be put to shame
Lord, your friend,
so that my enemy may not
rejoice and exult,
grant to me rather
that I in honour
may ascend and triumph.

faithful in what you intend,
therefore when I have to struggle,
grant that I may be victorious,
Lay on me the burden
that on me you have

You are a hero of unlimited strength,
who overturns everything,
you have a hathat creates everything,
that is unrestricted.
Lord of hosts,
if you were , my God,
to be named in keeping with your glory,
you are great in wisdom
and what you do
no force can resist.

Du bist der Tröster Israel
Und Retter aus Trübsalen,
Wie kommts denn, daß du meine Seel jetzt sinken lässt und fallen?
Du stellst und hast
Dich als ein Gast,
Der fremd ist in dem Lande,
Und wie ein Held,
Dems Herz enfällt
Mit Schimpf und großer Schande.

You bring consolation to Israel
and deliver him from troubles.
How comes it then, that you allow my soul
now to droop and fall?
You act as if
you were a visitor
who is a stranger in the land
and like a hero
who loses heart
with dishonour and great shame.

Nein HErr, ein solcher bist du nicht
Des ist mein Herz gegründet,
du stehest fest, der du dein Licht
Hier bei uns angezündet.
Ja hier hältst du,
HErr, deine Ruh
bei uns, die nach dir heißen,

Zu rechter Zeit
Uns aus der Not zu reißen.

No, Lord, you are not like that,
of this my heart is convinced,
you stand firm, it is you who have
kindled your light here among us.
Yes here you keep,
Lord, your peace
among us, who are called after you,
and you are ready
at the right time
to snatch us from distress.

Now, Lord, after all this count
of words already counted,
help me, who have so many times
knocked at your door.
Help me, my helper,
then I shall here
bring a joyful offering to you
and hereafter there
for ever and ever
I shall sing gloriously to you in heaven.
