O Menschen, die ihr täglich sündigt,
Ihr sollt der Engel Freude sein.
Ihr jubilierendes Geschrei,
Dass Gott mit euch versöhnet sei,
Hat euch den süßen Trost verkündigt. |
|
O people, who daily sin,
you should be the joy of the angels.
Their cries of rejoicing,
that God is reconciled with you,
have announced sweet consolation to you. |

Die Engel, welche sich zuvor
Vor euch als vor Verfluchten scheuen,
Erfüllen nun die Luft im höhern Chor,
Um über euer Heil sich zu erfreuen.
Gott, so euch aus dem Paradies
Aus englischer Gemeinschaft stieß,
Läßt euch nun wiederum auf Erden
Durch seine Gegenwart vollkommen selig werden:
So danket nun mit vollem Munde
Vor die gewünschte Zeit im neuen Bunde. |
|
The angels who before
shrank away from you as from those accursed
fill now the air in choirs on high
as they rejoice over your salvation.
As God from paradise
from the company of angels drove you away,
so now again on earth he lets
you become perfectly blessed through his presence.
Thank him therefore now with full mouths
for the time for which you have longed in the new covenant. |

|
This is a day which the Lord himself has made,
who has brought his son into this world.
O blessed time, which is now fulfilled!
O faithful waiting, that is now forever appeased!
O faith, that sees its goal!
O love that draws God to itself
O joy, that pierces through sorrow
and brings to God the sacrifice of our lips! |

Es bringt das rechte Jubeljahr,
Was trauern wir denn immerdar?
Frisch auf! itzt ist es Singenszeit,
Das Jesulein wendt alles Leid. |
|
The true year of celebration/jubilee comes,
why then should we continue to mourn?
Come on! Now is the time for singing
The little Jesus turns away all suffering. |
