Text for BWV 229 (Motet)
Komm, Jesu, komm

Original German Text

English Translation

1.

Komm, Jesu, komm, mein Leib ist müde,
die Kraft verschwindt je mehr und mehr,
ich sehne mich nach deinem Friede;
der saure Weg wird mir zu schwer!
Komm, ich will mich dir ergeben;

Come Jesus, come, my body is weary,
my strength dwindles ever more and more,
I yearn for your peace;
this bitter path is becoming too difficult for me!
Come, I will surrender myself to you;
you are the right path, the truth and the life.

2.

Thus I enfold myself in your hands
and bid the world Good Night!
Though my life's course now hastens to an end
my spirit is still fully engaged.
It shall waft along beside its creator,
for Jesus is and remains the true path to life.
