Mass in B minor BWV 232
Conducted by Martin Pearlman
Heads-Up on New B minor Mass

I came across the information that Martin Perlman and his Boston Baroque group have recorded the B minor Mass and it will be released in the U.S. toward the end of this month. What does seem strange is that the price will cost just the equivalent of one CD.
Anyway, I'm very interested in hearing this recording. Perlman and company have done some great Bach, and I was particularly impressed with their Händel Messiah, which is my favorite on period instruments.

That's okay. I have confidence in Perlman based on his other recordings. Of course, I've said that type of thing before and ended up the loser.

(To Donald Satz) Some month's ago, I had the opportunity to attend a performance of Perlman's B Minor Mass at Boston's Jordan Hall. It was wonderful (except for one horn player that just could not manage the period horn...Ken Edmonds, if you're out there, do you remember what horn it was?).
As I recall, the tempi were brisk but not overly aggressive; the soloists excellent. I enjoyed the performance and will surely purchase the recording when it is released.
