Today, I uploaded the Kurt Thomas' recording of the Mass in B Minor on my website.
The issue of this recording was in 1955 at the latest. So the copyright of it is expired today at the latest.

[To Richard] There is no information in the album when and where it was recorded. But there is pirinted "JU. 55/4" on the reverse side of the jackets. So it could not be recorded after "JU. 55/4". Perhaps, I think, it means the date of publication.

I would appreciate any infotmation about this recording.

[To Nagamiya Tutomu] This recording was published in France in 1957 ( OL 112/4 ). It was reviewed in French magazine " DISQUES " n° 90 of 1957, with 1956 as year of recording. Who really knows ? This record looks very outdated to new generations, But it remains brilliant despite the singing of the german Lieder singer Lore Fischer, rather overexpressive...And it is so exciting to hear those striking trumpet sounds....

[To Nagamiya Tutomu] I don't think that Aryeh will mind at all if I tell this story briefly. Recently, when I was experiencing something with some less than world-famed performer, I looked at the biographies which Aryeh prepared on all performers who have left any audio record of a Bach work, the greats and the less than greats and even the bads. I found some error in it (I no longer recall who or what). Aryeh wrote me back and said that now he had corrected the error (actually there were several). I immediately wrote back and said: Look, it says the selfsame things (wrong things) as before. Aryeh kindly and patiently explained to me that my cache had preserved the unchanged old error-laden write-up. Now, I did not turn green nor did I turn red; rather I thanked him, not only for changing the information but for informing me with my naive understanding of the computer that I had to refresh bzw. reload. So obvious and yet not intuitive. My brother has always told me that in the world of computers it is often the counter-(in)tuitive which will get you to your destination. And so it was and all came to a conclusion in the best possible way.

On another matter, yesterday I was telling a friend who is an friend herself of the old Sonia Cervena about this alto's recordings of Mahler's Kindertotenlieder under Scherchen in 1960 together with her recording with the same conductor of Mahler Sym. no. 3. It gave me the opportunity to inform her that, of the first four recordings of Mahler no. 3, three of them are with Hilde Rössl-Majdan:

One under Scherchen (the first recording; later in 1960 Scherchen has another recording with Sonia Cervena). Two under Adler, one studio, the other live. I had no idea for the life of me who either conductor Eugen SZENKÁR or alto Diana EUSTRATI were. I then shortly realized that she is in the Lehmann Matthäus-Passion (the one with Krebs).. I also recalled listening to that recording about a year ago, not responding well to it and having no memory of any of the soloists except for Helmut Krebs who did not appeal to me in that recording. I do find him outstanding in his German language radio broadcast of four of Berlioz's Sommernächte. So, one thing leads to another and it is so nice to be able to discuss music with simple interest in the music and without religious wars which have no place on a music list.
