Coro

1

Chorale [S, A, T, B]

Tromba, Oboe I/II, Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

Erhalt uns, Herr, bei deinem Wort,
Und steur' des Papsts und Türken Mord,
Die Jesum Christum, deinen Sohn,
Stürzen wollen von seinem Thron.

Preserve us, Lord, with your word,
and control the murderous rage of the Pope and the Turks,
who would want to cast down Jesus Christ, your son,
From his throne.

Aria T

2

Aria [Tenor]

Oboe I/II, Continuo

Sende deine Macht von oben,
Herr der Herren, starker Gott!
Deine Kirche zu erfreuen
Und der Feinde bittern Spott
Augenblicklich zu zerstreuen.

Send your might from above
Lord of Lords, powerful God!
to give joy to your church

and the bitter mockery of our enemies
To scatter in an instant.

Choral e Recitativo A T

3

Chorale & Recitative [Alto, Tenor]

Continuo

Alt:

Alto:
The good will and power of humanity would be of little use
if you were not willing to protect your little flock.

Beide:
Gott Heilger Geist, du Tröster wert,

Ensemble:
God, the holy spirit, you precious comforter,

Tenor:

Tenor:
You know that the persecuted city of God
has within itself the most evil enemy
through the danger of false brethren.

Beide:
Gib dein'm Volk einerlei Sinn auf Erd,

Ensemble:
Give to your people unity of purpose on earth,

Alt:
Dass wir, an Christi Leibe Glieder,
Im Glauben eins, im Leben einig sei'n.

Alto:
so that we, members of Christ's body
may be one in faith, united in life.

Beide:
Steh bei uns in der letzten Not!

Ensemble:
Stand by us in our last agony!

Tenor:
Es bricht alsdann der letzte Feind herein
Und will den Trost von unsern Herzen trennen;
Doch lass dich da als unsern Helfer kennen.

Tenor:
Then the last enemy breaks in on us
and wants to separate cconsolation from our hearts;
Let yourself be known as our helper.

Beide:

Both:
Lead us out of death into life!

Aria B

4

Aria [Bass]

Continuo

Stürze zu Boden, schwülstige Stolze!
Mache zunichte, was sie erdacht!
Laß sie den Abgrund plötzlich verschlingen,
Wehre dem Toben feindlicher Macht,
Laß ihr Verlangen nimmer gelingen!

Throw to the ground, pompous pride!
Bring to nothing, what they intended!
Let the abyss suddenly swallow them up,
curb the raging of the enemy's power

May what they long for never come to pass!

5

Recitativo T

5

Recitative [Tenor]

Continuo

So wird dein Wort und Wahrheit offenbar
Und stellet sich im höchsten Glanze dar,
Dass du vor deine Kirche wachst,
Dass du des heilgen Wortes Lehren
Zum Segen fruchtbar machst;

Then will your word and truth be revealed
and be placed in the highest splendour,
so that you watch over your church,
so that by the teaching of the holy word

it is made fruitful in blessing
and if you're willing to turn as helper towards us
then in peace will
An abundance of blessings be granted to us.

Choral

6

Choral [S, A, T, B]

Tromba e Oboe I/II e Violino I col Soprano, Violino II coll'Alto, Viola col Tenore, Continuo

Verleih uns Frieden gnädiglich,
Herr Gott, zu unsern Zeiten;
Es ist doch ja kein andrer nicht,
Der für uns könnte streiten,
Denn du, unser Gott, alleine.

Grant us peace, in your mercy,
Lord God, in our time;
there is indeed no one else

can fight the fight for us
except you alone, our God.

Amen.

Grant to our Princess and all those in authority
peace and good government
so that we among then
may lead a calm and peaceful life
in all godliness and honesty.
Amen.
