Lucinda Houghton (Soprano) |
Born: England |
The English soprano and singing teacher, Lucinda Houghton, studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, obtaining AGSM Diplomas in Performance (Voice) and Singing Teaching (1974-1978). She also studied at the University of Sussex CCE: Certificate of Music (Top level pass) (1999-2001); Course in Arts Management (2003), BA (Hons) Music (Upper 2:1, 1st in Performance) (2001-2003). She also holds DipABRSM with distinction (2010).
After gaining her diplomas from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Lucinda Houghton developed a career working as both soloist and chorister for many of the most influential and creative directors of our time, such as Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Sir Roger Norrington, Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Neville Marriner, Gianandrea Noseda, Richard Hickox, Trevor Pinnock, Harry Christophers, Andrew Manze, Gustav Leonhardt, Sigiswald Kuijken, René Jacobs, Stephen Cleobury, David Hill and Fabio Biondi, amongst many, many others, with the majority of whom she has been lucky enough to travel extensively, performing and recording in some of the most celebrated venues in the world.
The principal choral groups with which Lucinda Houghton works include: the Monteverdi Choir, The Sixteen, Choir of The English Concert, Choir of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, BBC Singers (ad hoc), Collegium Musicum 90 , Schütz Choir, Taverner Choir, London Voices, Europa Galante.
Lucinda Houghton's clear lyric soprano voice has moved several composers to write pieces of music specifically for her, including three pieces by Peter Copley, and was the inspiration for the voice of Mary in James Ellis's Songs from Luke:The Nativity. Andrew Parnell also chose Lucinda to give the first performance of his Music Divine, a large work for chorus and orchestra with soprano and baritone soloists.
Having spent many years on the concert platform and on stage working alongside, and learning from, leading international artists, Lucinda Houghton feels she has a great deal to offer her pupils both technically and in communication and performance skills: she is also proficient in French, Italian and German. She is a bit of a technique junkie and is very keen to ensure that her pupils have a good understanding of support, resonance, projection and breath management. She has a keen interest in, and many years' experience of, vocal rehabilitation.
Lucinda Houghton prepares people for examinations at all levels - from Scholarships, GCSEs, A-Levels, Undergraduate and Post-Graduate degrees and University and Conservatoire entry, Associated Board Grade 1 to Diploma and has pupils aged 8 to 80. Teaching Experience: 1994 to date - private singing pupils from beginners to advanced; 2003 to date - Principal Singing Tutor and vocal consultant at University of Sussex; 2004 to date - Accepted to Teaching Panel of the East Sussex Music Service; 2004 to date - Singing teaching staff member - East Sussex Academy of Music; 2005 to date - Singing Teacher at Worth School, West Sussex; 2006 to date - Vocal consultant and workshop leader for various choral groups; 2005 - 2008 Singing Teacher at Eastbourne College, East Sussex.
