The vocal ensemble Cantus Thuringia, dedicates itself in different occupations to the repertoire of the 16th to the 18th century: from the quartet to the chamber choir, the professional singers are able to create an adequate ensemble sound according to the music. The collaboration with internationally sought-after soloists complements the musical spectrum.
In addition to the emphasis on sacred vocal music, a uniform overall concept is aimed at the performance of stage works through the collaboration with specialists of historical acting and gestures. For example, the ensemble was able to attract international attention in productions such as Purcell's Dido and Aeneas (directed by Margit Legler), Georg Philipp Telemann's Pimpinone or Anna Amalia's Erwin und Elmire (both directed by Nils Niemann).
The ensemble performs at international festivals and other venues, including the Händel-Festspiele Halle (Saale), Internationale Händel-Festspiele Göttingen, Bachfest Leipzig, Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, Bach Biennale Weimar, Tage Alter Musik in Herne, Gröpelinger Barock, Thüringer Bachwochen, Heinrich-Schütz-Musikfest; and many others CD, radio and television recordings. The ensemble is musically directed by its founders Bernhard Klapprott and Christoph Dittmar.
According to its name, there is a special focus on Central German music. Thus, the ensemble has performed many rediscovered works for the first time and was able to present several first recordings on the CPO label, such as Weihnachts-Oratorium and Neujahrs-Oratorium by Georg Gebel d.J., Matthäus-Passion by Johann Christoph Rothe, the CD "Triumph, ihr Christen seid erfreut" with cantatas by George Frideric Handel and his teacher Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow and in 2017 two debut recordings: "Große Festkantaten" by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and all the cantatas by Johann Peter Kellner. |
