The Japanese soprano, Eri Sawae, studied at the Kunitachi College of Music vocal music department, wining upon graduatin the Takeoka Award (2005); the Tokyo University of the Arts School of Graduate Degree (2008); the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School of doctoral graduates. Research the British composer R · Quilter's work, receiving her PhD in Music in 2012. She studied singing with Mineko Sato and Nagai Kazuko. In 2010, she won 2nd prize at the 79th Japan Music Competition; in 2013, she won prize at the 11th Tokyo Music Competition vocal music department # 2.
In 2008, Eri Sawae sang in the comic opera Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss at the Seiji Ozawa Music School. In 2009, she gave recital at the small hall of Tokyo Bunka Kaikan (sponsored by Japan Federation of Musicians). In 2010, she sang soprano solo in Felix Mendelssohn's Hymn with Tsutsumi Shunsaku conducting the Royal Chamber Orchestra. In 2011, she sang soprano solo in J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) with Kinshokoku conducting the Ensemble of Tokyo. In 2012, she gave recital "Anthology of R. Quilter"; participated in the Great East Japan Earthquake Charity Concert singing soprano solo in J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV 21 with Masaaki Suzuki conducting the Bach Collegium Japan; sang soprano solo in F. Mendelssohn's Paulus with Masaaki Suzuki conducting the Bach Collegium Japan; sang soprano solo in L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with Kazuyoshi Akiyama conducting the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra. In 2013, she sang soprano solo in Johannes Brahms' German Requiem with Nozomu Aoki conducting the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra; sang the role of Barbarina in W.A. Mozart's opera Le nozze di Figaro at the Hokutopia International Music Festival 2013.
Since 2006, Eri Sawae is a member of the Bach Collegium Japan (Director: Masaaki Suzuki), participating in their national and international concert tours and recordings. She has been highly evaluated in terms of the ensemble rather than as a soloist.
Eri Sawaes tepertoire as a lyric soprano include: Songs by British and American composers (Quilter, Benjamin Britten, Samuel Barber, Copland), Japanese composers (Kosaku Yamada, Yoshinao Nakada), German composers (Schubert, Robert Schumann, F. Mendelssohn, R. Strauss), etc. During her graduate studies she studied the English singing, and gained a reputation for her good stage English pronunciation. In the sacred music: soprano solos in J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion and B minor Mass (BWV 232), Haydn's The Seasons, W.A. Mozart's C minor Mass and Requiem, J. Brahms' German Requiem, Gabriel Fauré's Requiem. Her wide reperire spreads from early Baroque to late Romantic. |
