Lisa Larsson (Soprano)

Born: 1967 - Sweden

The Swedish soprano, Lisa Larsson, started her career early as a concert flautist, and later studied in Basle and became a member of the Zürich Opera Studio, where she performed under a.o. Franz Welser-Möst, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Christoph von Dohnányi.

Lisa Larsson appeared as Papagena in Die Zauberflöte under Riccardo Muti in the opening production of 1995-1996 season at La Scala, Milan, and durig that season performed at the Zürich Opera, the Opéra de Lausanne and the Komische Oper Berlin. She also sang Adele in Die Fledermaus at the Ludwigsburg Festival and appeared at the Hamburg Opera weeks under Ralf Weikert in Carmen and Verdi's Don Carlo. In the 1996-1997 season the artist was a member of the Basle Opera where she sang Amor in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice, Susanna in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro and Oscar in Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera. In the 1997-1998 season Lisa Larsson made her debut at the Royal Danish Opera singing Ilia in W.A. Mozart's Idomeneo and Pamina as well as Xenia in Boris Godunow under Claudio Abbado at the Salzburg Easter Festival 1998. This successful Salzburg debut resulted in invitations to sing Zerlina in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Festival in Aix-en-Provence 1998 and 1999, direction Peter Brook/Claudio Abbado. Other recent engagements included Ännchen in Weber's Der Freischütz at the Opéra de Nancy, Servilia in W.A. Mozart's La clemenza di Tito at the Glyndebourne Opera Festival 1999, Adina in Elisir d'Amore and Susanna at the Royal Danish Opera Copenhagen, Susanna in Antwerpen and Venice as well as Fortuna in W.A. Mozart's Il sogno di Scipione and Morgana in George Frideric Handel's Alcina at the Montreux Festival 2000.

On the concert platform, Lisa Larsson has performed at the Royal Stockholm Festival, under Franz Welser-Möst in G.F. Handel's Messiah, in Berlin under Claudio Abbado with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, in London with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment under Nicholas McGegan at the Royal Albert Hall, under Christopher Hogwood, Claus Peter Flor and Ton Koopman with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich, with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House Copenhagen under Manfred Honeck, with Ton Koopman and the Baroque Orchestra Amsterdam, with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra under Hugh Wolff, with John Eliot Gardiner at the Festivals of Strasbourg, St. Denis and Aldeburgh, with Peter Schreier in Copenhagen and with Martin Haselböck in Vienna.

Lisa Larsson's recordings include the Triumph of Aphrodite under Franz Welser-Möst, J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), Magnificat (BWV 243), Easter Oratorio (BWV 249) and several solo cantatas for Erato Disques under Ton Koopman, Robert Schumann's Manfred under Mario Venzago.

Engagements in past seasons include: Titanja in Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Glyndebourne Opera Festival 2001, Norina in Don Pasquale at the Opera La Monnaie in Brussels, c-minor Mass by W.A. Mozart in Antwerpen, Saul by G.F. Handel in Geneva, J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243) and cantatas under Ton Koopman in Milan, Geneva, Lissabon, Paris and Basel, Najade in Ariadne auf Naxos at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Susanna in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro in Venice and Geneva, Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, Grieg's Peer Gynt under Mikahil Pletnev in Ferrara, concerts with W.A. Mozart arias in Örebro, concerts in Utrecht, J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) under Ton Koopman in Vienna, Marzelline in L.v. Beethoven's Fidelio in Monte Carlo, Gustav Mahler's 8th Symphony in Strasbourg.

This season (2004-2005) highlights include the title role in W.A. Mozart's Zaida on a European tour with Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra under Ton Koopman, and Felix Mendelssohn's Lobgesang with Orquestra Filarmonika de Malaga under Weikert, and with the Orchestre de Chambre de Gèneve under Michael Hopstetter.
