The German mezzo-soprano/contralto, Susanne Langner, enjoyed an early musical training through her involvement in the Gewandhaus-Kinderchor in Leipzig and the Rundfunk-Jugendchor Wernigerode. Since 1998, she studied singing at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Elisabeth Wilke and qualified summa cum lauda. A prize-winner in international competitions, she was awarded both the audience prize and the special prize in Leipzig at the international Johann Sebastian Bach Competition (2004) and Weiden Hans Pfitzner prize (in the fields of Lied and in 17th and 18th century music). In addition, she was a finalist at several international competitions. She has been much inspired by attending master-classes given by Peter Kooy, Barbara Schlick, Wolfram Rieger, Axel Bauni and Peter Schreier.
Susanne Langner combines being a member of the prestigious RIAS-Kammerchor in Berlin with extensive solo engagements. She has a wide repertoire from Baroque to modern, with the emphasis of her activities is currently in the oratorio area. In particular as a Baroque specialist she has operatic experience (as Orlando by George Frideric Handel,Venus by Alessandro Scarlatti and Oronte by Antonio Vivaldi in Barga (Italy).
Susanne Langner has appeared with many famous concuctors such as Federico Maria Sardelli, Reinhard Goebel, Helmuth Rilling, Hans-Christoph Rademann, Ludwig Güttler and Michi Gaigg. Respectively with many original instrument ensembles such as the Freiburger Barockorchester, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Lautten Compagney Berlin, Concerto Köln, Elbipolis Barockorchester Hamburg, Wroclaw Baroqueorchestra, Leipziger Barockorchester and Dresdner Barockorchester, but also with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Thomanerchor Leipzig, Dresdner Kreuzchor and the WDR Rundfunkchor Köln and WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln.
Susanne Langner has regularly been invited to appear in such festivals as the Wratislavia Cantans, Bachfest Leipzig, MDR Musiksommer, Europäisches Musikfest Stuttgart, Days of ancient music Helsinki and Telemann Festtage Magdeburg.
Together with Ludwig Böhme and the Leipziger Synagogalchor Susanne Langner has embarked on a process of safekeeping and encouragement of both sacred and secular Jewish music. This work was awarded the Obermayer German Jewish History Award in 2017. |
