Founded in 2009 by harpsichordist Vincent Bernhardt., the Ensemble Il delirio fantastico (= IDF) is a group of young musicians specialised in Baroque, its practical history as well as the playing of old-fashioned instruments. It consists mainly of former students of the “Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon” who spent their student life together and who wished to pursue their collaboration after their studies.
Il delirio fantastico is above all a sharing experience where each musician contributes actively to the specificity and evolution of the group. Made up of an important kernel of fixed musicians, the Ensemble pursues its work in a sustained, constant way which has enabled a specific style to blossom that is very different from most other France Baroque Ensembles.
Since October 2009, the Ensemble has presented a series of monthly concerts dedicated to the Cantatas of J.S. Bach (Cantates de Bach à Lyon) and more recently, since November 2010, to a season of German and Italian Baroque music in which A. Vivaldi and some other least known Baroque composers (such as J.D. Heinrich, Georg Philipp Telemann, Johann Georg Pisendel …) have played a greater role.
Thanks to its “variable geometry” or flexibility, Il delirio fantastico has been able to find and bring out the inherent specifics to each type of orchestra from those times.
With thirty concerts to its credit since its creation two years ago, Il delirio fantastico has already played a great number of Baroque works and around forty or so of J.S. Bach’ sacred Cantatas.
Apart from their work with Il delirio fantastico, the members are associated with several other Baroque Ensembles (for example Les Arts Florissants, La Chapelle Rhénane, European Union Baroque Orchestra ..) under the supervision of such maestros as Lars Ulrik Mortensen, William Christie, Emmanuelle Haïm, Masaaki Suzuki, Christophe Rousset, Chiara Banchini, Christina Pluhar … |
