Klaartje van Veldhoven (Soprano)

Born: 1981 - The Netherlands

The Dutch soprano, Klaartje van Veldhoven, received her Master of Music degree (cum laude) in solo singing in 2006 from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where she studied with Maria Acda, Rita Dams and Diane Forlano, and as part of which she spent one semester at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel studying with Evelyn Tubb and Gerd Türk. For her studies in Basel, Klaartje was awarded a scholarship by the 'VandenEnde Foundation'. Currently she is coached by Jard van Nes and Johannette Zomer. She took part in master-classes in the Czech Republic and Portugal, represented her country in the European Youth Choir on a tour of Norway and Sweden and sang with the 'The Hague Vocal Academy' in Germany. In October 2006, Klaartje was awarded first prize in the 'John Kerr Award for English Song' competition in Finchcock's Museum (England).

In 2003-2004 Klaartje van Veldhoven attended the opera class of the Nieuwe Opera Academie, singing the parts of Belinda in Dido and Aeneas by Purcell, First Fairy, Night and Juno in the Fairy Queen by Purcell and Zerlina in Don Giovanni by W.A. Mozart. In December 2005 she sang the part of the 'Spiegelbeeld' (mirror image) in Pontormo, a new opera composed by Niels Berentsen, in a production by the Royal Conservatory conducted by Anthony Zielhorst and staged by Javier Lopez Pinon.

In October 2006, Klaartje van Veldhoven gave a solo recital in Finchcock's Museum (England) in the 'Prize Winners' Concert'. In November 2005, she made her debut with the ensemble l'Arpeggiata conducted by Christina Pluhar. In September 2007, she toured as a soloist with the European Union Baroque Orchestra (Christina Pluhar) in France, Italy and Cyprus. She has taken part in a number of tours to the USA with the chamber consort of the Nederlandse Bachvereniging conducted by Jos van Veldhoven (New York, San Fransisco, Berkeley, Seattle, Richmond and in the prestigious Tanglewood festival) performing the Mass in B minor (BWV 232) by J.S. Bach. A CD of this project has been released by Channel Classics.

Klaartje van Veldhoven has performed the soprano parts in the Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, George Frideric Handel's Messiah, the W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) and Magnificat (BWV 243) by J.S. Bach and the Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria. She performed as a soloist with the Atheneum Chamber Orchestra conducted by Alexandru Lascae, she sang in Steve Reich's Desert Music conducted by Reinbert de Leeuw and she sang the parts of Amor, Proserpina and Bacco in the opera Orfeo by Luigi Rossi with the solo ensemble of the Nederlandse Bachvereniging conducted by Jos van Veldhoven.
