The Dutch tenor and choral conductor, Ronald Threels, studied Classical singing and Lieder at the Hogeschool voor Kunsten Utrecht at the famous Lieder singer and Schubert interpreter Udo Reinemann. Additionally, he received lessons from the Belgian tenor Ludwig van Gijsegem and the renowned vocal coach Mya Besselink. At the Instituut voor Dirigenten-Educatie in Gorinchem he studied choral conducting and he was taught by conductor/pedagogue Joop Schets. In addition, he completed studies of clinical psychology at the University of Leiden.
The tenor voice of Ronald Threels has been described as warm and lyrical. Although his repertoire includes Lieder, oratorios, operas and Passions of many periods, he has developed a love for Baroque music and the Viennese Classics. Still, he feels very much at home in renditions of example the Evangelist in Hugo Distler's Choralpassion and Joh. Wagenaar's comic opera De Schipbreuk. His voice volume enables him ease of interpretation with conviction of both the baritone solos in the Psalms of E. Grieg as the high tenor solo in Schubert's Nachthelle.
His solo (oratorio) repertoire includes: Messiah by George Frideric Handel, Coronation Mass and Requiem by W.A. Mozart, Messe Solennelle by Rossini, Missa Criolla by A. Ramirez, Messa di Gloria by G. Puccini, Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln by Franz Schmidt, Elias and Paul by Felix Mendelssohn, Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) and Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) and many Cantatas by J.S. Bach, Jephte by G. Carissimi, Carmen by Georges Bizet.
In addition to the Lieder by Franz Liszt, Wolff, Ralph Vaughan Williams and Parry, Ronald Threels performs regularly Lieder by Johannes Brahms, F. Schubert, and his favorite composer F. Mendelssohn. As a singer of Lieder he has collaborated with pianist Berhard Touwen, organist Jos Beijer and pianist/harpsichordist Jan van der Meer. With them he performed at recitals of Lieder by Franz Liszt, H. Wolff, R. Vaughan Williams and C.H.H. Parry.
As a tenor, Ronald Threels is associated with the Nederlandse Bachvereniging under the direction of Jos van Veldhoven frequently heard on many leading venues in the Netherlands and abroad. In the Nederlandse Bachvereniging, he also collaborated with to Gustav Leonhardt, Richard Egarr, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Alan Curtis, Peter Dijkstra en Johannes Leertouwer. He also sings in the newly established professional chamber choir of the foundation Ars Musica under the direction of the enthusiastic energetic conductor Patrick van der Linden firmly on the road limelight.
Besides his activities as tenor sin ger, Ronald Threels is also founder and conductor of the chamber choir Con Passione Oude Wetering, and conductor of Gemengde Zangvereniging Zang en Vriendschap te Oisterwijk (Mixed Vocal Choral Society and Friendship Oisterwijk). In addition to many a cappella choral works by F. Mendelssohn, he conducted several times his Psalm 42 with 80 singers and orchestra as part of a choir Foundation project "Mendelssohn&Zo". Under his enthusiastic and energetic direction, together with his chamber choir Con Passione and members of Leiderdorps Kamerorkest in the cycle "Cantatediensten in de Hooglandse- en Pieterskerk te Leiden" a very successful performance data from Cantata BWV 127 by J.S. Bach. In Christmas 2009 he recorded a number of performances with his chamber choir Con Passione and the orchestra The (Broken) Consort, including works by H. Purcell , Dietrich Buxtehude, G.F. Handel and Georg Philipp Telemann. Recently he has performed with his choir Con Passione Gloria and Magnificat by Antonio Vivaldi performed and a symphony of Alessandro Scarlatti. In the near future the Requiem by W.A. Mozart, Messe Solennelle by G. Rossini and another cantata by J.S. Bach in the cycle "Cantatediensten in de Hooglandse- en Pieterskerk te Leiden" are planned. |
