Konrad Junghänel is one of today’s leading international lutenists and is particularly admired for his outstanding assurance of style and technique. His reputation is due to his extraordinary virtuosity coupled with his perfect stylistic mastery of the lute repertoire.
Konrad Junghänel's repertoire covers the entire literature for lute written in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, and he is regarded as one of today’s best interpreters of the lute works of J.S. Bach and Silvius Leopold Weiss. His recordings of the solo lute music of Weiss was awarded the Preis der Debutschen Schallplattenkritik in 1985.
Konrad Junghänel has given both solo and ensemble recitals all over Europe, as well as in the USA, Japan, South America and Africa. In addition to his work as a soloist, he regularly plays together with other soloists and with ensembles, e.g. with the Belgian Counter-tenor René Jacobs, with La Petite Bande, the Kuijken brothers, Musica Antiqua Köln, Les Arts Florissants, the Toronto based chamber orchestra Tafelmusik and others besides.
Konrad Junghänel discography is impressive: he made over 100 records for Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, Harmonia Mundi France, EMI, Accent and Deutsche Grammophon/Archiv Produktion. He has held lectureship at the Staatlich Musikhochschule in Cologne since 1978. |
