Victoria Cassano (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: December 5, 1987 - Madrid, Spain

The Spanish mezzo-soprano, Victoria Cassano McDonald, began her musical studies playing both piano and violin in her hometown of Madrid. In 2008 she graduated from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, with a Bachelor degree in Music teaching. During her university studies she started singing lessons in Madrid with the mezzo-soprano Marta Infante and soon after she decided to move to The Netherlands to continue her studies at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague, studying both classical and Early Music singing with Rita Dams, Jill Feldman, Michael Chance and Peter Kooy, where she is now studying in the Masters program (2013-2015), specializing in the performance of Spanish sacred music of the 17th and 18th Centuries.

Victoria Cassano is a member of the Nederlandse Bachvereniging (Director: Jos van Veldhoven), Bach Koor Holland, and Laurens Collegium Rotterdam and performs regularly with ensembles such as Ars Lusitana, Os Orphicum, La Academia de los Nocturnos, L'Arco Sonoro and Vox Luminis (Director: Lionel Meunier). In June 2013 she took part in the Third Academy for young professionals of the CIMA foundation collaborating with La Capella Reial de Catalunya and Le Concert des Nations, conducted by Jordi Savall, performing in Barcelona and in the Royal Chapel of Versailles.

Victoria Cassano has participated in projects with conductors such as Jan Kleinbussink, Patrick Ayrton, Philippe Pierlot, Paul Agnew, Charles Toet, Peter Van Heyghen and Ton Koopman, and performed in festivals such as Bach Festival Dordrecht, Utrecht Early Music Festival, and Musikfest Stuttgart.

Future engagements include the role of Eduige in the opera Rodelinda by George Frideric Handel and the role of Arethuze in La descente d'Orphee aux Enfers by Charpentier, with Opera2day.
