Since its first appearance performing J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245 in 2017, Concentus König has managed to consolidate a stable core of musicians who make up flexible templates to cover the variety of repertoires that occupy their work. Basing his interpretations on the original roots of the work, the ensemble maintains the spirit of his creation by seeking to rediscover a sound that deepens the links between periods and composers: from Michael Praetorius to J.S. Bach or from Heinrich Schütz to W.A. Mozart.
Concentus König is a vocal and instrumental ensemble specialized in the interpretation of the repertoire of the 17th and first half of the 18th centuries, especially German, Spanish and Italian. Directed by Jorge Suárez, it is made up of a stable core of singers and soloists who are joined by an instrumental group that ranges from a large basso continuo to larger ensembles. Founded in 2017, Concentus König stands out for the special sound treatment with which it approaches its interpretations, always from an approach focused on the dramatic and rhetorical force of the text.
The ensemble was conceived as a group of soloists, in which each independent voice is brought together within the same group sound canvas. It was born with the desire to bring to the public of our country a repertoire always explored by foreign groups but rarely approached by Spanish groups. Thus, works by H. Schütz, Giovanni Gabrieli or Dietrich Buxtehude are presented in a new way within our panorama, always establishing musical excellence as the root of all their projects.
In 2023 Concentus König published his first album under the IBS Classical label, "Musikalische Exequien", where he celebrated the figure of H. Schütz on the 350th anniversary of his death. Together with works by J.S. Bach, M. Praetorius and Johann Christoph Bach, the recording seeks to establish a dialogue based on a rich amalgamation of the different cultural, religious and musical aspects of the ars moriendi of his time. In 2021, the ensemble released a single with music by D. Buxtehude, one of the most beloved and composers of the group.
Concentus König has been invited to several festivals in Spain, highlighting its inaugural participation in the Festival Internacional de Arte Sacro de Madrid in 2020. |
