Samuel Kittler [Küttler] was born to Samuel Kittler (blacksmith in Belgern). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on April 28, 1729. His father’s application for acceptance as Thomaner stated that he had a good soprano voice and was very interested in studying. He studied there from 1729 to 1737, since April 28, 1729 already as external; and at Universität Leipzig in 1737. J.S. Bach reported (August 23, 1730): “usable for 1st Choir (figural music)”. He was one of J.S. Bach's copyists from 1730 to 1735, appearing in the manuscripts as Anon. Vf; Anon. 10; Anon. L 88. After his studies, he works as Magister in Wittenberg (1741). Later he was Kantor and Rector in Belgern, Saxony. |
