The German baritone, Matthias Winckhler, received his first vocal training with Hartmut Elbert at the Bavarian Sing Academy, which he joind from 2005 to 2010. In June 2009, he received his high school graduation at the music orientated Pestalozzi-Gymnasium in Munich. From 2010 to 2013, he studied with Andreas Macco at Mozarteum Salzburg and still joins in the Lied class of Wolfgang Holzmair. He refined his achivements in master-classes with Graham Johnson, Rudolf Piernay, Peter Schreier and Breda Zakotnik. He was awarded a scholarship of the Walter und Charlotte Hamel Foundation and founded, since the beginning of his studies, by his home town's Kulturverein Fürstenfeldbruck. In 2014, he has held a scholarship of the Lied Residency of the Aix-en- Provence Festival.
At the International Mozart Competition Salzburg 2014, Matthias Winckhler was awarded the First Prize as well as the Special Prize of the Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg for the best Interpretation of a Lied by W.A. Mozart. At the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang Junior 2010 in Berlin he was awarded the Second Promotion Prize. He is Bach Prize winner of the XVIII. International Johann Sebastian Bach Competiton 2012 Leipzig and as finalist of the International Schubert-Duo Competition Dortmund 2013 he was awarded a Special Prize.
Matthias Winckhler's concert repertoire includes passions, oratorios and cantatas by J.S. Bach and his contemporaries, classical and romantic oratorios up to contemporary works. He worked with conductors including and Reinhard Goebel, Hans Graf, Günter Jena, Helmuth Rilling with orchestras including Camerata Salzburg, Brandenburgiscches Staatsorchester, Leipziger Barockorchester and Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg as well as with instrumental ensembles such as Les cornets noirs and La Banda “.
Another main emphasis of his musical interest is the ‘Kunstlied‘. Here, he closely works with Viennese lied accompanist Bernadette Bartos. He performed a Schubert-Lied-Matinee in Vienna in 2013 and at Opéra national du rhin in Strasbourg in 2014, and gave a solo recital with Bernadette Bartos at the Bachfest Leipzig in June 2014.
Matthias Winckhler is also a dedicated opera singer, performing several smaller parts as well as Belcore in Donizetti‘s L'elisir d'amore, Guglielmo in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, Conte Almaviva in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro as well as Ruggiero in Antonio Vivaldi's Orlando Furioso. In June 2014, he made his debut in the title role of W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni in Salzburg.
CD recordings, also with the Bavarian Broadcasting Coorperation and with Oehms Classics, as well as DVD recordings of "Der Tod und das Mädchen - eine spätherbstliche Schubertiade", Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore and W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro [Mozarteum Salzburg] already reflect his artistic achievements. |
