Born: August 19, 1925 - Münster/Westfalia, Germany
Died: December 11, 2010 - Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. |
The German soprano and academic voice teacher, Herrad Wehrung, earned her education at the Academies of Music in Salzburg ("Mozarteum", Günther Baum), Stuttgart and Freiburg (Margarethe von Winterfeldt), further from Margarethe Gmeiner and Hermann Achenbach.
By 1950 Herrad Wehrung quickly gained a wide reputation in Germany, to a certain extent from working with composers like Helmut Bornefeld and Siegfried Reda. From 1955 to 1975 she was one of the most sought after concerto sopranos in Germany. Through her performances at the Schütz Festivals in Upsala (1954), Amsterdam (1955), Dresden (1956) and at the "Kasseler Musiktage" (1953, 1956) she became known in more European countries. With her broad scope and flexibility she contributed to many broadcast productions and disk recordings.
During her later career, Professor Herrad Wehrung taught Singing at the Academies of Music in Stuttgart and Trossingen.
Herrad Wehrung was resident in Tübingen since 1930. The soprano Andrea Boesen is Herrad's daughter and student. |
