Thomas Scharr (Baritone) |
Born: Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany |
he German baritone, Thomas Scharr, gained his first musical experience in Stuttgart with the Stuttgarter Hymnus-Chorknaben. He studied at the University for Music and the School for Opera in Mannheim with Professor Dr. Alejandro Ramirez and Professor Jutta Gleue and perfected his vocal skills in master-classes given by Rudolf Piernay, Jakob Stämpfli, James Wagner and Sebastian Vittucci in Vienna.
From 1998 to 2003 Thomas Scharr was a member of the permanent ensemble at the Landestheater of Linz/Austria where he gave his international debut. During these years he performed various roles in a broad repertoire of operas and was seen in productions like Peter Grimes, I Pagliacci, The Bat and The Merry Widow. As an acknowledgement of his success he has been invited to guest performances in Stuttgart, Baden-Baden, Mannheim, Heidelberg, Nuernberg and Chemnitz. Under the direction of Dennis Russel Davis he sang at the Opera Festival in Athens and at the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele.
Following these years of gaining comprehensive experience in the world of opera Thomas Scharr is now strongly demanded as a concert singer and participates regularly in radio and CD productions. Most recently he was engaged by the SWR Stuttgart for a recording directed by Kay Johannsen.
The moving timbre of his voice and the fantastic musical instincts allow him to cover a wide range of oratorios. Especially his performances of Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) and Mass in B minor (BWV 232) by J.S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn’s Paulus as well as Messiah by George Frideric Handel received excellent comments in the press. He celebrated successes at many famous concert halls in Europe, e.g. in the Phiharmonie of Cologne, the Bremer Glocke, the Liederhalle in Stuttgart and the Viennese Musikverein. As a guest singer he was also invited to countless festivals like the Schwetzingen Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Vienna Festival Weeks, the Bodensee Festival, the European Music Festival of Stuttgart and the traditional Salzburg Festival. |
