The Kantorei Karlshorst has existed for many decades. It was probably founded when the church on Weseler Straße was built in 1910. The choir has been performing larger choral and orchestral works of classical choral literature for many years.
J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) is part of the repertoire, and in the Kirche Karlshorst e.g. George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Passions by Georg Philipp Telemann, Heinrich Schütz, Gottfried August Homilius, J.S. Bach and others. Since April 2013 the choir has been under the direction of Cornelia Ewald. The first major project of the Karlshorst Kantorei under her direction was the performance of Cantatas I-III of the aforementioned J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) on December 8, 2013 in the Kirche "Zur frohen Botschaft". Various great oratorios have subsequently been performed. In 2018 Joseph Haydn's The Creation, in 2019 W.A. Mozart's Requiem and in 2020 Johannes Brahms's Requiem were in preparation.
The choir currently consists of around 90 singers who gather for weekly rehearsals and special rehearsal days, organize choir weekends and take an active part in church and cultural life in Karlshorst. |
