Junges Bach Ensemble Berlin (Instrumental Ensemble)

Founded: Berlin, Germany

The Junges Bach Ensemble Berlin is a highly ambitious ensemble dedicated to historically informed performance practice in general and the works of J.S. Bach in particular. The members of the ensemble are young prospective professional musicians, most of whom are studying at the Berlin music academies or have just successfully completed their university studies. In addition, numerous renowned artists are associated with the ensemble, who complete the orchestra as concert masters or soloists. The musical work is given important impetus by the regular invitation of guests with proven expertise in the field of historical performance practice, who support the constant efforts of the ensemble members to put the finishing touches.

Mention should be made of Stephan Mai (Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin) and Laurence Dreyfus (viola da gamba player and artistic director of the viol consort Phantasm). Depending on the program, the works are interpreted on historical or modern instruments.

The Junges Bach Ensemble Berlin has been working together with Cornelia Ewald, the Kantorei Karlshorst and the Studiochor Karlshorst for several years now. In addition to the development and performance of J.S. Bach's cantatas in particular, the focus of the projects is on conveying the music of J.S. Bach to a broad audience. For this purpose, concert formats and workshops are developed in cooperation with experts from the fields of contemporary, music and church history, which are geared towards the respective target group. In addition to prospective church musicians, choir and orchestra conductors who are interested in historical performance practice, there are also people who are less interested in (church) music. Particular emphasis is placed on reaching and inspiring younger audiences.

The Manager of the Junges Bach Ensemble Berlin is Johannes Slenczka
