Goldberg Variations BWV 988
Played by Ragna Schirmer |
Another Goldberg Variations recording |
Anne Smith wrote (June 19, 2004):
Someone on a piano list praised the Goldberg Variations recording by Ragna Schirmer. This was her debut album with the Berlin Classics label. This pianist is unfamiliar to me. Has anyone heard this recording? Thoughts? |
Donald Satz wrote (June 20, 2004):
[To Anne Smith] I'm familiar with the Schirmer set, and it's a fine one. Overall, I feel that her main priority is to find the beauty in Bach's music. It doesn't make for a highly versatile set of performances, but I'd still place in the upper-half of recordings of the work. |

[To Donald Satz] Thanks for your comments Don. I rarely buy multiple copies of works. I already have 7 Goldbergs. Someone who is searching for the beauty in Bach's music is someone I want to listen to. I will look for this recording. |
