Born: December 12, 1718 - Beerendorf, near Delitzsch, Saxony, Germany
Died: December 29, 1783 - Beerendorf, Saxony, Germany |
Carl Christoph Folger was born the son of Johann Georg Folger (schoolmaster and Pastor in Beerendorf). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on January 27, 1733; studied there from 1733 to 1740?, since October 14, 1732 already as external; and at Universität Leipzig from 1741. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. He obtained his Magister degree in Wittenberg in 1746, ordination in Leipzig in 1747. After his studies, he was substitute from 1747 and Pastor from 1750 in Gütz/Landsberg (suspended in 1758, deposed in 1760); and taught at Universität Jena from 1760. His younger brothers were also Thomaners: Carl August Folger (1730-unknown) in 1745-1751; Daniel Emanuel Folger (1734-1810) in 1747-1754. |
