Carl August Folger (Organ, Bach's Pupil)

Born: May 18, 1730 - Beerendorf, near Delitzsch, Saxony, Germany
Died: February 26, 1758 - Landsberg, Halle (Saale), Saxony-Anhalt, Germany

Carl [Karl] August Folger was born the son of Johann Georg Folger (schoolmaster in Beerendorf). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on May 18, 1745; and studied there from 1745 to 1751; and studied with J.S. Bach during this period. He made an unsuccessful application for organist position in Delitzsch in 1749. From 1752 he worked as organist in Landsberg, near Halle (Saale). His brothers were also Thomaners: Carl Christoph Folger (1718-1783) in 1733-1740?; and Daniel Emanuel Folger (1734-1810) in 1747-1754.

In the event of an unsuccessful application for organist service in Delitzsch in 1749, Carl August Folger called J.S. Bach his "Lehr-Meister " (teaching master) "in hac Arte", that is, in organ playing. Certainly on the same occasion a J.S. Bach testimony was created, which was mentioned in the Landsberg employment documents in 1752, but is now lost.
