Daniel Emanuel Folger was born the son of Johann Georg Folger (schoolmaster and Pastor in Beerendorf). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on September 23, 1747; studied there from 1747 to 1754; at Universität Leipzig from 1754; at Universität Jena from 1759; at Universität Helmstedt from 1762; at Universität Halle; Cand. theology in Hamburg from 1765. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. After his studies, he worked as Head of a college in Hamburg. His elder brothers were also Thomaners: Carl Christoph Folger (1718-1783) in 1733-1740; Carl August Folger (1730-unknown) in 1745-1751. |
