The German baritone, Matthias Vieweg, was born in Sonneberg/Thuringia, and grew up in Mengersgereuth-Hämmern. He received his first piano instructions at the age of 5. He continued his thorough musical education in Wernigerode as a student of the Spezialklassen für Musik and a member of the Radio Youth Choir. In 1991 he entered the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin to study voice with KS Günther Leib, piano with Renate Schorler and voice accompanying with Walter Olbertz. He finished his study with the Konzertexamen in 1999.
Matthias Vieweg attended master-classes with renowned artists such as Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Hans Hotter, George Fortune, Rudolf Piernay and Peter Schreier and participated in operatic productions of the Komische Oper Berlin, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Hans Otto Theater in Potsdam, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin and Theatre du Capitole Toulouse. In 1997 he was awarded the First Prize in the competition of the Richard-Strauss-Society in Munich, which led to a collaboration with Wolfgang Sawallisch. At the International Bach Competition in Leipzig in 1998 he was awarded the Second Prize as well as the Sonderpreis des MDR.
Matthias Vieweg is an internationally active interpreter of opera, oratorio and Lieder. On the concert stage, he has co-operated with conductors such as Wolfgang Sawallisch, Helmut Froschauer, Helmuth Rilling and René Jacobs, and with ensembles such as the Rundfunkorchester Köln, Berliner Symphoniker, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin or Lautten Compagney Berlin. He had engagements at several international music festival, for example Internationalen Orgelwoche Nürnberg, Händelfestspiele Halle, Dresdener Musikfestspiele (in the Semperoper), Innsbrucker Festwochen, Festival Bach en Valée Mosane, Bachfest Leipzig, La Folle Journée de Nantes, Europäisches Musikfest Stuttgart, Parkfestspielen Potsdam Sanssouci, and MDR-Musiksommer. |
