Adele Stolte (Soprano)

Born: October 12, 1932 - Sperenberg/Zossen, Germany

The German soprano, Adele Stolte, spent her childhood in Lübeck and Dresden, and came after World War II to Potsdam. Here she came for the first time into closer contact with the church music. She sang in several church choirs under the direction of Karl Landgrebe, in which she already performed smaller solo parts. Finally she became pupil of Mrs. Anneliese Buschmann in Rostock.

In 1955 Adele Stolte appeared as soloist in oratorio renditions in Dresden, Leipzig and Mannheim. In 1958 she appeared in oratorio performances with two of the famous Saxonian choirs, Kreuzchor Dresden and Thomanerchor Leipzig. In 1958 she sang in the premiere of Te Deum by Ernst Pepping in Dresden. In 1959 she appeared at the Bach Festival in Mühlhausen (Thuringia). Soon she was considered as one of the great J.S. Bach interpreter of her generation. In 1968 she gave concerts in the Vienna Festival Weeks, and in 1969 in Zürich. She also appeared in Italy as concert soloist.

Since 1960 Adele Stolte produced numerous records, on part of which she sang with the Thomanerchor Leipzig. She had also appeared with great success on the concert podiums in Berlin, Bremen, Duisburg and Hannover and in many other music centres. She was not active on the stage, however she gave concertant opera performances in the concert hall, in broadcasts and on records. She was resident in Potsdam.

The first recordings of Adele Stolte appeared on Eterna, then on Eterna-DGG (Bastien und Bastienne by W.A. Mozart, J.S. Bach's Cantatas) and Eurodisc (J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244), Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos).
