The German tenor, Stephan Scherpe, gained his first experience in vocal Domkantorei of his hometown Merseburg. He first studied music education with artistic majoring in singing with Juliane Claus at the Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, soon before he completely turned to singing. Since autumn 2008 he is supervised by Professor Berthold Schmid at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (HMT) in Leipzig. He supplemented his previous studies by attending master-classes with Peter Berne, Phillip Moll, Kammersängerin Ileana Cotrubas, Kammersängerin Regina Werner-Dietrich, Gerd Türk and Sigrid T’Hooft. Hw was finalist at the 9th Lortzing-Wettbewerbs 2010 in Leipzig.
Stephan Scherpe has appread so far mainly as a tenor soloist in cantatas and oratorios area with various ensembles. He was involved in performances of George Frideric Handel's Messiah and Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248 and various cantatas by J.S. Bach, and also sang the tenor roles in W.A. Mozart's Requiem and Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah. He has already worked with the Lautten Compagney Berlin and during the Bachwoche Stuttgart 2010 with the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart conducted by Helmuth Rilling. In December 2010, he collaborated for the first time with the Zürcher Barockensemble La partita.
Stephan Scherpe has performed several times Lieder recitals at the Schumann-Festwoche in Leipzig and is devoted increasingly to the German, English and French songs of the 19th and 20th centuries.
His first stage experiences was gained already in various productions (eg Alle Wünsche sind dahin, June 2009, HMT Leipzig) during his studies. So he performed, for example, at this year's Bachfest Leipzig the role of Marton in Johann David Heinichen;s rediscovered opera Die lybische Talestris. Since the 2009-2010 season he has a guest engagement with the Landestheater Altenburg-Gera. |
