Rapahel Höhn (Tenor) |
Born: 1984 - Zürich, Switzerland |
The Swiss tenor, Raphael Höhn, received his first violin lessons already at the age of 4 years, and 3 years later he joined the Zürcher Sängerknaben. Being successful as a alto soloist he has done several CD-recordings and sang on concert tours in Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, the USA and in a Christmas-concert of the Pope. Also he sang 25 times the part of the second boy in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at the Opernhaus Zürich. After his voice changed and an exchange year in the USA, he decided to study singing, which he did at the Konservatorium Zürich and prepared himself with Frédéric Gindraux for his music studies.
From 2006 to 2011, Raphael Höhn studied classical singing at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste with Scot Weir and finished with his Master in Music Pedagogy. In a concert of the early music department of the school he discovered his talent as a Haute-Contre - a voice type which is mainly needed in the French Baroque. Therefore he decided, after finishing his master of pedagogy in Zürich, to go to The Hague (Netherlands) to study at the Early Music department of the Royal Conservatory, where he had lessons with Rita Dams, Peter Kooy, Michael Chance, Jill Feldman and Ton Koopman. He has been taking master-classes with various teachers such as Andreas Scholl, Lina Maria Äkerlund, Mariëtte Witteween and Jean-Paul Fouchécourt. In 2010 he won the Kiwanis competition in Zürich (Switzerland).
Next to his studies Raphael Höhn was always active as a concert singer. He sang the solo part in George Frideric Handel pieces such as Messiah, Acis and Galathea, in several J.S. Bach Cantatas and as Evangelist in the Passion. But his singing is not limited only to Baroque music only - also classic, romantic and modern pieces are in his repertoire. He is s a member of the professional Chor der J.S. Bach-Stiftung St. Gallen under the direction of Rudolf Lutz and the Amsterdam Baroque Choir under the direction of Ton Koopman. |
