The American tenor, David Gordon, has established a distinguished international reputation among the top ranks of classical vocalists, and he is regarded as one of the finest Bach tenors of our time. He has been heard at such prestigious festivals as those of Stuttgart, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Toronto, and Festival Casals, and in the USA at the festivals of Oregon Bach Festival, Carmel Bach Festival (California), and Bethlehem Bach Festival (Pennsylvania). Both in concert and in master-classes, he appeared frequently with Robert Shaw, Helmuth Rilling, Christopher Hogwood, Simon Preston, Seiji Ozawa, and other leading conductors world-wide.
David Gordon's repertoire extends beyond the music of J.S. Bach to include Benjamin Britten, Igor Stravinsky, and contemporary works of which he has given numerous world premiers. His orchestral credits include the symphonies of Boston Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Paris, Lisbon and scores of others. Also a busy operatic artist, he has sung more than 600 performances with the Metropolitan Opera, the Hamburg Staatsoper, the Chicago Lyric Opera, the Houston Grand Opera, and the San Francisco and Washington Operas.
David Gordon's diverse discography includes J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243) with Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and Dreams and Imaginations and Acis and Galatea with Gerard Schwarz and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. Gordon's association with Greg Funfgeld and the Bach Choir of Bethlehem began in 1984 when he appeared as the Evangelist in the Saint Matthew Passion (BWV 244). In the following years, he performed countless works with Greg Funfgeld and the Bach Choir of Bethlehem, and was featured on both of the Choir's Dorian recordings of Bach cantatas, Christmas in Leipzig and Wachet Auf. He also performed several times at the Baldwin-Wallace College Bach Festival (1989, 1994, 1996).
David Gordon is also a popular and busy teacher and seminar leader in the field of Sound, Music and Health. He has presented his innovative workshops throughout North America, and is on the faculty of the Esalen Institute in California. |
