The Polish-born German musicologist, cornet player and conductor, Holger Eichhorn, was born in Bromberg and grew up in a northern German pastorate. He received first violin lessons, then gained his first brass experience in the church choir, and was quickly atrractred to contemporary jazz. After high school and a year as a nurse Diaconal, he studied composition at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin. In 1967, he studied musicology at the Free University Berlin.
In the early 1970’s Holger Eichhorn founded the Musicalische Compagney. Concerts have taken him to many European countries and the USA. In addition to technical papers and books, he is currently working as an editor of the Johann Rosenmüller Complete Edition.
